New Teams in IPL 2022:
Even though prior reports recommended the expansion of two more groups within the past season, the BCCI at their 89th AGM reported that the extension of the association would happen as it were in 2022. In August 2021, the BCCI affirmed that two new franchises would connect the association beginning from the 2022 season.
It was too reported that the franchises would be based in two of the six cities shortlisted by the BCCI; Ahmedabad, Cuttack, Dharamshala, Guwahati, Indore, and Lucknow. Two new teams are Gujrat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. In a closed offering held on 25th October 2021, RPSG Group and CVC Capital won offers for the two teams.
RPSG paid ₹7,090 crores (US$940 million) for Lucknow, though CVC won Ahmedabad for ₹5,625crorese (US$750 million). As a result, the Lucknow group was named Lucknow Super Giants on 24th January 2022, while the Ahmedabad group was named Gujarat Titans on 9th February 2022.
IPL 2022 Updates:
There have been some updates or changes in some of the teams of IPL. Lucknow Super Giants Mark Wood has been ruled out of the league because he has an elbow injury and cannot be part of the tournament. Soon LSG will announce the new team member. In Gujrat Titans, an Afghan player named Rahmanullah Gurbaz has replaced Jason Roy in the team.
IPL Schedule 2022 is set to have 55 matches in Mumbai and 15 in Pune. All the teams are fully prepared to play games in the tournament at different places in India. They will play four matches at the DY Patil Stadium, Wankhede, and three matches at Brabourne and Pune.
Format of IPL Schedule 2022:
The format in this season of Indian premium league 2022 has been based on the ten teams. As with the addition of two new teams, the previous format will not be followed because if they go with the previous format, every team will have to play 18 matches, two matches with all other 9 teams.
It will be difficult for BCCI to complete the IPL Match Schedule 2022 in two months, so they must change the format. Now the format has been changed into Group Stage matches and Playoffs. This format comprised 74 matches and was presented as holding the past arrange would result in 94 matches, essentially more prominent than the 60 matches from the past season, where groups compete in a twofold round-robin tournament.
The ten groups are divided into two groups of five. Each group plays 14 matches within the group stage: confronting the other four groups in their group two times each (one domestic and one away game), four teams within the other group once, and the remaining group two times.
The groups for the tournament were declared on 25th February 2022. Each team plays the matches within the same row and column twice, and all others once. For example, Mumbai Indians will play Chennai Super Rulers and the other teams in group A twice but will play only once with the other four teams left in group B (Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Rulers, and Gujarat Titans).
The same is the case in group B, as Chennai Super Rulers will play twice with Mumbai Indians and other teams in group B but will only play once with the teams left in group A. The format of IPL 2022 is similar to the IPL 2011 as in that season, the format was made according to the groups, but the difference is that this time teams were systematically selected to be in a group, but in 2011 they were selected randomly.
The best four teams challenge three playoff matches, with one losing group being given a second chance to reach the final, a wrinkle pointed at maximizing potential TV income. The playoff portion of the competition includes the four groups that wrapped up at the top of the tables in a series of knockout games that allows one team that lost its first-round match a second chance to progress to the final match.
Following is the list of teams in their respective groups:
Group A | Group B |
---|---|
Mumbai Indians | Chennai Super Rulers |
Kolkata Knight Riders | Sunrisers Hyderabad |
Rajasthan Royals | Royal Challengers Bangalore |
